As part of tactileBOSCH's 25th anniversary programme, Fist Inside the Velvet Glove, we're heading to Elysium in Swansea for a weekend of live performance, performance history, artist talks and shared action.
Across two days, the programme brings together artists working with the body, memory, endurance, photography, archives and the histories held within particular places.
Saturday begins with Heidi Denholm's two-hour performance Portrait of an artist in limbo, inviting audiences to sit with the discomfort, boredom and absurdity of waiting. Tudor Rhys Etchells & Jack Moyse then turn their attention to photography, bureaucracy and the complicated relationship between a live performance and its documentation, before performances by Vicki Davis and Samm Shackleton, whose work Last Known Position returns to questions of bodily memory, dependence, persistence and survival.
Sunday opens with artist and researcher Heike Roms and When Performance Art Came to Swansea, a performance lecture tracing the city's largely overlooked relationship with performance art during the 1960s and 70s. Drawing on fragments, memories, histories and rumours, the work asks what Swansea's early performance scene can tell us about the development of contemporary art beyond Britain's metropolitan centres.
Following lunch, the weekend closes with Glasbren: Performance Open Jam a shared live action bringing artists and audiences together in an open, collective space for performance and experimentation.
